BY MAY is a Swedish design studio and brand by designers Johanna Örn and Maria Bergström creating unique and functional products for the home with focus on print design, colours and a variety of materials.
Their beautiful hexagon silicone placemats are the perfect accessory when setting your table, both functional and playful at the same time. They come in several different design patterns and colours, and are made of food safe silicone that is easy to wipe clean with a cloth. I am very drawn towards the lovely dotted pink version myself.
“Our vision is to create products that combines traditional techniques and craftsmanship with new design thinking – to create functional and beautiful products. A source of inspiration is to combine our Scandinavian design heritage with Japanese influences, which often have a lot in common. We also pay a lot of attention to details and high quality of the materials. We believe that simplicity and quality of good design lasts in the long run.” – BY MAY

🍂 I recently purchased this set of Sjuda trivets from IKEA, and thought they are so much fun. Originally I planned on buying the original round ones, but when I spotted the cute design of these new ones I was sold straight away.
Design: The trivets are designed by Lisa Ullenius and are made of a renewable cork material. The pattern is beautiful minimalistic and compliments the leaf-like shape perfectly.
Product: You can either use them on their own or combine several to fit larger pots and dishes. I think they could be great for creating a cool wall art pattern or a cool pinboard. They are easy to clean, just wipe with a damp cloth. If you are on the hunt for affordable yet quirky trivets then I recommend these ones!
As you may know already fashion brand COS and furniture company HAY launched their first joint range last year, and now they have added new items to their collaborative range. Refresh your home for Spring with the new collection full of soft pastel shades and light wood.
This collaboration is a match made in heaven, a beautiful mix of Danish & Swedish style!
“We were very pleased with the reaction from our customers on the collaboration with HAY, we have always admired what HAY do and share many of its values. We like to describe it as HAY seen through the eyes of COS.” – Martin Andersson (head of design at COS)
You can shop the new COS×HAY Spring collection online or at any of their London High Street Kensington, Vienna Neubaugasse and Gothenburg stores.
One of the shops I miss going for a browse in back home is Monki. If you haven’t heard of this Swedish brand before, be prepared to be inspired by their quirky & cool style! They describe themselves as “a wild and crazy international retail concept that believes that it needs to fight ordinary and boost imagination with an experience out of the ordinary” and I couldn’t agree more. Their website is currently full of great items, here are some of my favourite ones;
Be sure to check out #monkistyle for more inspiration or have a browse in store if you are lucky enough to be located near one.
Loving the simplicity & nordic expression of these pillows by the swedish design duo HOW ARE YOU. They are a part of their MAKING HARD THINGS SOFT collection & their philosophy is simple; ‘we do this for fun and we only do things we like and hopefully you like it too.’
Click here to see all of the pillows from the collection! That wood textured one is definitely on my wishlist..
This beautiful simplistic poster caught my eye. Its by Swedish art director & graphic designer Tommy Olsson who goes by the artist name Puldefranck. Geometric shapes is a recurring element of his aestethics. The expression is sometimes clean & modern, and sometimes more playful but always with a nordic vibe.
The Orb Cafe is available in two different sizes and can be purchased from his website. The perfect poster for any coffee lover!
