Its finally here; the Milan Design Week 2016! I have my pass ready for the Salone Del Mobile exhibition and can’t wait to go and browse later this week. I will also be exploring the rest of the city and of course go to see Structure which will be showcasing Norwegian contemporary crafts & design. It will be a busy week ahead, but so exciting! Follow along here on the blog for updates on what I find, and also on my Instagram where I will be posting images thought-out the week.

To start the countdown I though I would present my absolute favourite find from last years Salone Del Mobile, the PULK storage bench designed by Herman Studio and made in Denmark by the Hans Knudsen Institute.

Pulk means sledge, and to me there is something so Scandinavian about a sledge. Growing up winter was a big thing, we would play in the snow building snowmen and also ride sledges down any nearby hills all day long. So this sledge takes me back to that winter wonderland feeling.. This piece of indoor furniture however is not for using in the snow, but instead a smart storage solution for your home. When you open the top you find hidden compartments for keeping shoes, scarves, magazine or any small items you want to keep put of sight. I think it would be the perfect bench to keep in a hallway for sitting on when putting on your shoes.

“With PULK we have the reinterpreted the anatomy of a sledge and turned it into a piece of furniture, turned things upside down and created a new function from a strong reference” – Herman Studio

Will you be going to Salone Del Mobile or any other exhibitions or events during the Milan Design Week? Would be great to meet up with fellow bloggers or design enthusiasts so let me know. Ciao!
